Back To Board

The problem is the system

Posted By Garth

This is a hugely important issue to me. There is no way to know when someone is cheating to lose. Frankly, I have to agree with Dave's assessment below. Sorry, Tim, I see that KenG supports you from his experience with you, but your explanation is strange and does not make a lot of sense. But I must admit that this is a very un-fun thing to do on a public board: to question the integrity of somebody I do not know. Especially, since we view a little cheating as OK.

The problem is the system. The order of the monthly drafts does a lot to reduce the incentive to intentionally lose, but not enough. There are still too many top prospects coming up each month, and if you manage to get a bad team to win, you really screw yourself. To lessen the impact of the monthly draft order, I suggest a "prospect protect list". Every team would be allowed to pick one prospect off a list of the top 50 or top 100 prospects, and keep that one guy despite his otherwise ineligible status. This option would be during the annual rookie draft only. This would lessen the advantage of high picks in the rookie draft as the list would be deeper. (Although top of 2nd round picks might be better). Also, the advantage of high picks in the monthly drafts would be in getting guys who can help right now, as it is intended. It would not often be a time to grab the top prospects, because they would already be taken. Everybody would have one of the top 20 prospects, and those prospects would not come up in the montly drafts.
