Some good information! After I posted my request for help, I went back to the manual again and re-read the part under AWAY LINEUPS and found the following: 3. USING COMBINATION OF BOTH (putting in separate lineups and setting Default lineups). "the ROBOT uses the starting pitcher who is ready (at least 30 BFA) and who is highest graded and listed in your rotations in Manager Options". The at least 30 BFA's is given only to pitchers who are listed as Starters or Part-time Starters in the game (Current Status or Ratings areas of the game) so you're absolutely right on tract with your explanation. Even though Shields had started games he is listed as a Middle Reliever and subsequently given BFA's less than 30. In his case it is 22. Again thanks for the insight.
