G4 and ALL future trades...

Posted By Greg

There are several facets to this particular trade that serve to confuse the issue and our discussion/understanding of it. As Joey pointed out most of them are "history" and perhaps should not be relevant to this particular deal.

However, some of us remember very well that when these "past issues" were originally brought up Mike "looked into it" and his official response was that he would not rescind any of those trades but any future trades made by this manager would be very carefully scrutinized. I for one read more into that statement than apparently was meant...

But I don't want to rehash all that since it got us nowhere then and apparently won't get us anywhere now. But I would like to take this opportunity to make a suggestion. I made the same one 3 years ago and got ripped then. Maybe now it will get more support...

**I propose that EVERY manager post potential trade offers in league forums before accepting them.**

I understand it is unlikely this would be accepted as an official rule(policy). But if enough of us put it forth to each other as "good practice" maybe we can get something positive out of this. This could serve several purposes. Hopefully it would greatly increase the general interest in trading. Trading in my leagues this year was virtually non-existent. Then almost every time a trade did go through I would find myself thinking (sometimes shouting and cursing) that I would have loved the chance to make (what I felt anyway...lol) was a better offer.
This would work extremely well for managerless team offers. We can argue whether the "G4" trade was "fair" till the Red Sox win a World Series- but I will bet Sheffield's MVP bonus that if you posted that "offer" on the league forum and gave 48 hours for someone to make a BETTER offer you would get some response...

What are the potential problems? The only reason I can think someone wouldn't want to post an offer is if you think you're taking the other guy and don't want to give anyone else the chance to beat your offer. I remember some argued it would "bog down" trading- make them take too long- especially when you try and make contingent trades. While this may be true- I feel the potential advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.
Let me know what YOU think!!!
