When I try to compare players defensively, which of the PB criteria are more important?

Doesn't a combination of high "range" and "FPCT" translate in to very good defense, without the benefit of double plays? Does the combination of a mediocre defensive rating and a high "DP" rating mean my 2B may not make a lot of plays himself, but he will turn the DP when he has the opportunity?? In the OF, isn't "high range, average FPCT" better than "average range, high FPCT"?

Now the question I hate to ask. Does the "Computer" even care about the defensive ratings? Are some games just loaded with good defense, and others with tons of errors... and the true path to success is "load up on offense and avoid LHP starters"?
