Hitting - Look at Pitching

Posted By Tim Shine

There are lots of data given below about hitting stats not reflecting reality. I agree with the rationale that in either 20 or 24 team league hitters are going to see far better pitching than in reality. What do we have 32 major league teams? Based upon just that number we should expect that overall the hitting should be down. My observations is that this is seen more in batting average than in home run production. I have no explanation for this but would mention that we also are not using all 32 major league parks and that in each league the combination of parks used is different. The park factor may be contribution to home run production.

Now, I’d like to turn this around and have you stats guys look at the overall era’s of the teams. If we use the same rationale they should be proportionally higher since the pitchers are facing better hitters that in reality. I don’t have an answer but someone interested in this might see how the pitchers are doing.
