THE MAJORS COMPARED TO OUR LEAGUES.

Posted By KenG

OK, very glad to see much discussion going on.

Decided to see how a complete league compares to MLB. This way you are comparing over 100,000 at bats and over 25,000 IP.

Expectations:

While smaller leagues will result in individuals having lesser stats than MLB(30 teams), we also aren't using the worst 20-25% of the players from MLB rosters, so overall team stats would be bumped up. Thus stats may be close to what MLB stats are. A big key is if hitting is slightly up or down, does ERA move up or down with it(hitting down, ERA lower, hitting up, ERA higher).

Results:

20 TEAM LEAGUES
MLB- .266 ave, .428 slg, .335 oba with a 4.46ERA.
C2 - .257 ave, .420 slg, .325 oba with a 4.30ERA.
S3 - .255 ave, .415 slg, .324 oba with a 4.28ERA.
K15- .261 ave, .421 slg, .328 oba with a 4.38ERA.
C16- .259 ave, .417 slg, .328 oba with a 4.38ERA.
F18- .261 ave, .425 slg, .331 oba with a 4.49ERA.

24 TEAM LEAGUE
MLB - .266 ave, .428 slg, .335 oba with a 4.46ERA.
K17 - .257 ave, .408 slg, .326 oba with a 4.25ERA.

Final thoughts:

I'm not going to compare real time leagues as they are a completely different creature. Traditional leagues are the best way to see how accurage the game mechanics are.

With only one 24 team league, the only thing I can get from this is that the ERA to hitting relation is correct, with pitching about 5% better than hitting.

The 20 team leagues show great consistancy, with a 1-3% variation between leagues, and pitching being every so slightly better than hitting. The hitting - ERA relation is also correct.

I also play DMB(1 league, with salary cap and contracts, thats why I play) and PB is easily the better game for total control. I'm very happy with the statistical accuracy, as all of us should be.
