OK, I'm an IDIOT!
I'm team "A" in Mike's example. The obvious result of the informal "poll" is that I'm incommpetent.
No wonder my teams do so poorly and everybody wants to trade with me!
Seriously, guys, that may be true, but what about the pitcher scarcity factor? This trade was in a 24-team league and pitching is really tough to get. I know how badly the game punishes leftie pitchers, but I've had better than average luck with Lilly on other teams (for a leftie, he's performed about how his real stats indicate he should).
I also think Ramirez' reputation is being enhanced right now by the Cub factor. I've noticed that players for the Yankees, Red Sox, and Cubs automatically get inflated reputations. Being a Royals fan, this seldom happens, but it may have something to do with how I evaluate Dye--I keep thinking he will have one of those great years, and his first half last year was on track to do so.
Anyway, it IS interesting to see a trade critiqued by PureBaseball peers. Sometimes I get buyer's regret sooner than others. This one is a real downer after reading the comments.
Happy New Year!!!
