As a Yankee-hater (sorry Anthony), I love to see Steinbrenner spend on high-dollar old guys as the farm system deteriorates.
Signing Johnson and passing on Beltran could very well work in the short term. They may well win it all in 2005, but they also are vulnerable due to the age of their stars, as Anthony points out.
It looks like another year to root for the underdog.
My only problem as a Midwesterner is that I dislike the Red Sox almost as much as I hate the Yankees.
GO Cardinals, White Sox, Twinkies, Astros!!!!
(But what do I know? I root for the Royals!)
