Views on Rookies
Hey Brian B.
Just a few additional comments on your Rookie list.
D. Wright - A solid ballplayer but watch out for a sophmore jinx (Eric Hinske comes to mind)!
B.J. Upton - Can get on base and has great speed. Can't play SS and doesn't have a position. Lots of upside but probably not in 2005.
J. Mauer - 2005 will tell if he can stay behind home plate with his knee.
S. Kazmir - Good prospect with questions about the number of walks and his control/arm strength.
Z. Greinke - Nice BB/K ratio and soild P prospect with a few too many dingers last year.
C. Kotchman - History of nagging injuries and can he turn those 2Bs into HRs. Probably will DH or split time with Erstad.
D. McPherson - Defense is iffy and lots of whiffs at AAA but has potential.
K. Matsui - 2005 should be much better indicator after making adjustment to MLB last season. I think he'll get better.
A. Rios - Maybe not in 2005 but probably soon after.
G. Sizemore - Good player and might get opportunity in CLV outfield.
D. Bush - Promising young pitcher.
J. Blanton - Has skills and will likely start in the rotation 2005. Can he live up to the hype?
J. Francis - Just say Coors Field and Pitcher over and over again on draft day.
J. Capellan - still pretty raw.
No one can break your heart faster than a promising young pitcher!
