Defense vs Bats

Posted By Eric

That has been my philosophy for quite a while now. I basically pick out the 9 best bats I have reguardless of position and try to fill out a lineup with them. I do try and get a catcher, shortstop and center fielder in the correct positions as the penalty is greater, but when Jose Valentin and Chris Gomez went down on the same day with injuries, I didn't hesitate to play Castilla at short for three weeks and just ignore the (many) errors. They did not cost my team any wins and it allowed me to use a bench outfielder (Adrian Beltre, my regular left fielder moved to third) instead of an automatic out at short.

A good defense is nice, and it helps that the players I play out of position are very sound defensively, but a solid offense aimed at knocking the starter out early and preying on those poor long/middle relief men is my main goal in filling out a lineup.
