Range Rating
I was wondering if anyone has any idea as to why Royce Clayton has such a bad Range rating at SS for 2004.
Here are his stats and ratings from 2003:
G: 141
INN: 1217.2
PO: 193
A: 396
E: 14
DP: 76
FPCT: .977
Outs: 384
OPPS: 457
Zone: .871
ODR: 5.6
Range: 5**
FPCT: 7.1
DP: 5.2
........and from 2004:
G: 144
INN: 1241
PO: 213
A: 418
E: 9
DP: 88
FPCT: .986
Outs: 398
OPPS: 486
Zone: .837
ODR: 4.6
Range: 1.6**
FPCT: 9
DP: 6.3
What is causing this huge, punishing discrepancy in his Range rating? Anyone have any idea? Is this only because he played at Coors field and there are a lot of hits to LF? His Zone rating is lower, but other than that all of his number are better than 2003.
I looked at the Zone rating for the same 2 years on Cesar Izturis and found that his Range rating went up as his Zone rating went down:
2003: .888 Zone / 9.1 Range
2004: .903 Zone / 5 Range
This sure does make much sense to me. It seems strange to me that his ratings would take such a drastic hit when his numbers are better.
