Impact of current Fantasy/Stats dispute on PB?
Some of you may be aware that there is a current dispute over licensing MLB player stats for fantasy sports games. Somehow, the MLB Players Association licensed the exclusive rights to use its players stats to a branch of MLB that runs its own fantasy site for supposedly 5 years and $50 million. Currently many fantasy sites are not willing to accept signups for the coming season. The legal dispute will be if stats are ownable like a logo or likeness when used to make money for another party of if they are public domain.
Just wondering what impact, if any, this has on PB. For the trad leagues, I'd have to think the year delay makes it less of an issue - but for Real Time I wonder if this could be a problem if weekly stat updates end up costing a lot more or are blocked entirely.
Would like to see a response from Mike on this, if this is an issue or not.
