Different Drafts would yield Different Experiences
It seems to me that the current setup puts a lot of emphasis on patience and rewards owners who follow players the year around. It is also more analogous to Major League Baseball because you have to build a team, and some teams are in a rebuilding mode at any given time.
A significantly smaller protected league is going to put much higher stakes on each individual draft, and reward continued participation year-round much less.
It seems that the same purpose can be served by reviving the Launch Leagues as soon as possible. I'd hate to see us change the present system very much because it does duplicate what Major League teams have to think about it building their lineups.
