DaveF has a very good point here

I propose that we keep the status quo for drafts and 27 man cut.

However, Dave has a very good point when he says that the 27 man headcount can hurt the weak teams more than the strong teams.

My hardest decisions last year did not come from my teams that have made the playoffs 5 years running. My hardest decisions were the team that has been in the lottery the last couple years.

Last year on a "weak" team I got down to the last couple spots and had to guess who to keep between Ken Harvey, Mike Cuddyer, Jason Johnson, Casey Fossum, Chan Ho Park, etc. With a pitching staff that was a complete train wreck it was hard to throw away pitching so I ended up discarding Cuddyer and hoping I could draft him back in the 2nd round of the FA draft. Well someone beat me to him. So cutting to 27 (vice 30) hurt this rebuilding team that was guessing who to cut between guys I really wanted to keep.

Meanwhile on my "strong" teams my hardest decisions were what to get in return for Kenny Lofton and which mediocre relivers to cut to make room for a prospect like DeJesus.

I'm not advocating a change... but DaveF has made a very interesting point.
