My experience is that rustiness wears off rather quickly after the player has been activated. I don't know if there is any way to predict, but my suspicion is that there is some kind of sliding "deterioration" factor that is applied to the relevant stats of the player in question. It starts offf at full and quickly reduces to zero.

Maybe the Commish can inform us of the exact method.
