Ultimate Curse of the Red Sox
I'm a lifelong Yankee fan. My father took me to my first game in 1964 to see Stottlemyre pitch against Cardinals in World Series. I was 6 and barely understood anything, by the next year I did and the Yankees slide began.
Here we are 40 years later. The Red Sox comeback will prove to be more damaging than the series itself. The Yanks panicked and overestimated their talent and needs fixated on doing what it took to beat the Sox in a playoff series and on paper in a short series, they could beat them BUT
they will not make the playoffs and the implosion is not far from happening.
Johnson is too old and will not play well on Broadway if Yanks fall out of contention; i would have preferred to use that money and get Beltran and trade or sign a younger and cheaper pitcher.
Brown is through
Wright is now hurt (Jon Lieber???)
Mussina is not the same pitcher though I hold out hopes that will turn.
B. Williams: through
Giambi: through
Tino: nice guy but close to done
Posada: 34 yr old catcher-close to done
They have no bench
Quantrill, Karsay, F. Rodriguez, Stanton-all mop up pitchers
A-Rod: great talent but not the same player for Yankees and losing seems to follow him. He leaves Seattle and they win; he leaves Texas and they win...
The Yankees are tough to watch. I can see Cashman being fired for Johnson, Wright, Brown, 5 yrs....Torre retiring;
They have very little in the farm system. I think the Red Sox won more than just the series last year-they have cursed the Yankees. It will take years to turn this,
Anthony-disgruntled Yanks fan
