When is a pitcher tired?
I had thought that during a game when a pitcher went past 0 BFA to negative BFA, he would not become tired until he allowed a baserunner and if the game said "Smith is tired" that if he got out of the inning he would start the next inning not tired until he allowed a base runner in that inning.
However, at 0 BFA my opponent allowed a hit with no outs. He did not get listed as tired though and proceeded to retire the side. The next inning he hit the first batter and became tired.
So...does a pitcher need to be negative when he allows a baserunner in order to be tired but he can have men on base from hits prior to being tired? In other words, can he allow a hit at +1 or 0 BFA and then go to negative BFA a batter or two later but NOT be tired but keep his full effectiveness because he did not yet allow a hit AFTER he was negative BFA?
I have always been pulling my pitcher once he is negative BFA if there are men on base. Perhaps that wasn't necessary.
