Phantom Managers
I share your frustration Kurt. I think that part of the problem is that for every team that is marked "unmanaged" there are an equal number of teams that are "neglected". They have a manager in name only. (There are some teams that have not made a roster move all season. There are some teams that have not made a trade in five years! These managers do not submit draft lists in the spring. Some of these teams have every single home game played by the robot on Tuesdays.) If I am on the road against such a team I don't even look for series results until Tuesday. If there is a player I covet on one of those teams I don't even bother. That player might as well not exist. Mike has lessened this problem somewhat by allowing trades with "unmanaged" teams but realistically there are only about 6-8 teams you can trade with in most leagues. I don't have a solution. Perhaps Mike needs to be more vigilant and not allow managers to keep teams year after year without being active. For that matter why would anyone want to pay the monthly fee and not be active? I'm not talking about a month or two when you get busy with work or family matters but year after year. Most leagues have several teams where the manager has been inactive for years. It would be better for the league if these teams were available for adoption. At the very least we would know they are unmanaged and would not be trying to communicate with people who are never going to respond.
