I am not sure the status quo helps active managers, but I don't see how extending the deadline would hurt them.
Part of what I hear Mike saying is that there might be more trades with managerless teams if he has more time. That should benefit both active managers and managerless teams (on the assumption that a trade w/ a UNM has to be a good one).
