Competitive fine - but give a tie to a real owner

Posted By Fred C

I like that the unmanaged teams aren't just doormats also - but I do think too much is done to make them competitive by requiring trades to overly benefit them (in effect a higher standard on trades for them than just being "fair" to both teams which is the marker for every other trade), and drafting totally on potential instead of actual position needs at times which most owned teams are forced to do.

Having said that, not everyone gets to own 8 teams for the price of 3 as I think you do Ken - so not all owners might be OK with "waiting til next year" for team A if beaten out by unmanaged team as they don't have teams B to H to occupy them.

I actually think the founders situation creates long term problems when owners with plenty of teams can "play for next year" with a few of them, because they have other teams that are winning. Its harder to take a long term approach with one or two teams - and I think the fact that owners with so many teams can be more strategic with rebuilding because they probably have a few solid teams to get behind in other leagues is a major competitive edge.

I also think that the notion that the stats eventually balance out over many leagues is more acceptible if you have many teams - an owner is likely to have as many "surprises" as "disappointments" if they have a bunch of teams to play with. If you just have the one, and your stud player and starting pitcher happen to be the version of that player that majorly underperforms, that's a big issue.

I know I sound like I'm ranting maybe, but I think the situation with the Founder pricing and a small number of owners with a half-dozen or more teams hurts PureBaseball more than it helps - those owners get to play differently with their teams as no single team's success or failure is important - they can bounce from team to team based on who is doing best and have a fun experience; furthermore they are taking up proportionally alot of PB's resources while providing not nearly enough revenue in return, and its been made clear that PB is in the state where it can't make enough money to expand or advertise or upgrade on a regular basis.
