Pure Baseball's FAQ
Page
The following are questions we have found that most new managers need
help with. The questions are conveniently divided into categories to help you
along. Please take the time to see if your question is answered before posting a
question to the bulletin board. This will cut down on the amount of time it
takes for you to get your question answered. There is a link to the FAQ Bulletin Board at the bottom of this
page.
If you haven't taken time to
go through the step by step process found within our Pure Baseball Game Tour we encourage you to do so. A lot
of your questions can be answered there.

Questions

fille from its current location or save it to disk. What is the appropriate

A: Always choose "Open".

an error trying to start my first game? (This
question added 3/15)

Add/Remove Programs, highlight PureBaseball and click Remove, then Yes to
verify that you want to remove it. Close Control Panel.

- Q: It all seems so
complicated, will I figure this out?
A: Absolutely! It's tough
to be a rookie, but remember that most of the owners will be playing Pure
Baseball for the first time. The launch leagues are 3 months long -- which
leaves ample time to learn the rules and develop a strategy. If you do have
questions, our staff is ready to help, and you can always comminicate with
other managers.
- Q. Do I need to set my browser to any special
settings?
A. Yes. Just one.
For users of Internet Explorer (the preferred browser) click
"View" then "Internet Options" and in the section for
Temporary Internet Files, click the settings button. Select the button for
"Check for newer versions of stored pages... Every visit to to the
page." For users of Netscape, under Edit select Preferences, then
Advanced. Under the Cache section, Document in cache compared to document on
network should be set to "Every time".
(Note: If you do not use
these browser settings, you will run into difficulty submitting
lineups.)
- Q. How should I proceed if I get a "RUNTIME
ERROR" followed by an "Abnormal program termination" while
trying to report a game?
A.
Close the program out and go to your RSIBB folder. Open the folder and
double click on Purebaseball.exe. The program will open to the point at
which the game can be reported again. Keep trying this maneuver until the
game gets reported.
- Q: Can I change my team
schedule?
A: Yes. If both managers involved
agree in switching a series (switch the home and away teams), then each
manager should relay the message to commish@purebaseball.com and the changes will be made.
- Q: What happens if my
machine locks up during a game?
A: Email technical@purebaseball.com and
include as much information as you can about the crash. See the manual section
about Policy on Game Resets. You may be able to get the game restarted but the
game can not be restored from the point of a crash. Game crashes are very rare
and the most common causes are listed in the Policy on Game Resets section of
the manual.
- Q: What if my internet
connection drops while I'm transmitting my results?
A: Reestablish you internet connection, and manually launch
Purebaseball.exe from the "RsiBB" directory. This will complete
the transmission of your game.
- Q: Why don't I have an icon
on my desktop or start menu?
A: The game is
launched through your browser and you will rarely need to launch it
manually.
- Q: Do I have to play out the
entire schedule? What if I go on vacation or just don't have the time to
play?
A: The Purebaseball game has robots
that will play your games for you if you are unable to play them. The robots
will play the game to the best of their ability. They can also set your
lineups for you.
- Q: Where can I find a
listing for all the stats used in this game?
A: At any time click on the help button on the Purebaseball
menu for a listing of all the stats.
- Q: I am trying to play a game and get a message containing the following text after START game command:
MSVCP60.DLL is linked to missing exportMSVCRT>DLL_lc_collate_cp.
A: This problem can happen the first time you try to play or after you have changed machines. This fix will work but may take several tries to take. We have had managers repeat the process several times before it clears the system of the MSVCRT error. Please follow the instructions below and let us know if there is anything in the instructions you do not understand:
Open Control Panel, go to add/remove programs, highlight PureBaseball and click remove then remove all, close control panel.
Open Windows Explorer, highlight the RsiBB folder then delete it. Close Explorer.
Open Recycle Bin and delete anything that has to do with PureBaseball. Close Recycle Bin.
Reboot your system.
Once the system is back up make sure that nothing is running but windows, disable anything running in the background i.e. anti virus, chat, system monitor etc.
Reinstall the game using the PB33Inst file. While installing use the defaults.

Game Site
Questions
- Q: How do I play an away game?
A: When you look under your team's schedules the games
listed will either be home or away. Both
home and away games will be selectable. The robot will play the away games
for you. But before the game is played you have some manager options that
can set your team's strategy for that game.
- Q: How
do I post a player(s) that I wish to trade or I am looking for?
A: When you have players you would like to trade, you
can post it in the Trade Forum and on your team's News Desk.
- Q: How
do I complete a trade with another manager?
A: After two managers have agreed upon a trade, each manager needs to
step through the "Trades" function on the Front Desk of your team
page. Fill in all information correctly. The Commissioner must approve all
trades.
- Q: Why can't I print pages from your
site?
A: Before printing, click on the body of the frame (part of the
page) you want to print. In a frame site, you must tell the computer which
frame you wish to print.
Questions About
Playing The Game
- Q: How are season IDs determined in PureBaseball?
A: The season used refers to the season from which the statistics are used to SIM the game. Example in a TRAD league using the 2000 statistics the season ID would be 2000 even though the games would be played in 2001.
- Q: How do pitching grades work and how do Clutch grades effect them?
A: The pitching grades are guide lines.
They give you an idea of what the raw statistics ( raw statistics are the
exact stats a pitcher compiles. That is total BB, K, H, 2B, 3B, HR, HBP, etc. against both RH
and LH hitters) would tell you when neutralized for park effects. They do
NOT foretell ERA. A pitcher has raw stats just like a hitter. A pitcher's
ERA is similar to a hitter's run stats or RBI stats, it doesn't necessarily
follow that the best raw stats create the best ERAs. In PURE BASEBALL we
affect ERA with the clutch ratings used in concert with the raw stats. If a
pitcher's clutch rating is higher than 5 he will have better raw stats with
runner(s) on base than he will with bases empty. If a pitcher's clutch
rating is less than 5 he will have better raw stats with bases empty than he
will with runner(s) on base. All pitchers ratings (pitching and clutch) have
been adjusted to reflect what his grade would be in a neutral park. Houston
Astros, LA Dodgers, and Chicago White Sox pitchers will have lower ratings
than they would receive in APBA. The converse is true about pitchers who
pitch for the Colorado Rockies (God love 'em!).
- Q: How does player recovery work when someone is returning from the
farm system?
A: The returning player get
the benefit of a full series rest. His stats will show that he has a days
rest. This is to prevent the game from reading the player as being
"rusty". His stats will be adjusted accordingly following the
player's first series back.
